Aventino Cucina Romana is looking for a motivated, passionate, and driven Junior Sous Chef to join our kitchen team in Bethesda, Maryland.

This is a great opportunity for a cook who is ready to take the next step in their culinary career. The role combines hands-on line cooking with leadership development, giving you the opportunity to sharpen your culinary skills while learning what it takes to help manage a professional kitchen.

We believe great kitchen leaders are built through experience, teamwork, consistency, and a willingness to learn. As Junior Sous Chef, you'll work alongside our culinary leadership team, contribute to daily kitchen operations, and gradually take on more responsibility as you grow into the role.

We're looking for someone who loves being on the line but has ambitions beyond the station. You take pride in your work, want to understand the bigger picture of running a kitchen, and are excited to develop into a dependable leader.

What You'll Do

• Work the line: Prepare and execute dishes during service while maintaining high standards for quality, consistency, timing, and presentation.
• Develop your culinary skills: Build proficiency across kitchen stations, strengthen your technique, and deepen your understanding of Italian cuisine.
• Learn kitchen management: Work alongside the chef team to learn ordering, inventory, prep planning, food costing, waste control, and kitchen organization.
• Build leadership skills: Learn how to lead by example, communicate effectively, support fellow cooks, and help maintain a positive, productive kitchen.
• Support daily operations: Assist with opening and closing procedures, prep lists, station setup, cleanliness, and food safety.
• Grow into greater responsibility: Gradually take on supervisory duties and help oversee kitchen operations as your skills and experience develop.

• Previous experience working in a professional kitchen, ideally in a line cook or similar role.
• A strong work ethic, positive attitude, and genuine passion for food.
• A willingness to learn, accept feedback, and continuously improve.
• Good organization, attention to detail, and the ability to stay composed during busy services.
• A team-first mindset and the desire to develop leadership skills.
